The War of Art
By: Steven Pressfield

This is an Essential item for any Artist's war chest. Even if you're not an artist, this book is extremely helpful in understanding the battle you fight to be who, and what, you want to be. Not a self-help book, really, more of a deep dive into your self. I'm halfway through it right now, and I'll probably finish it tonight. It's a fast read.

Deep Work
By: Cal Newport

My girlfriend gets on my case for reading so many self help books. She's right, I do read a lot of them. Mostly about work, and how to work better, and when to work, or why. I'm constantly trying to tame my own mind, and make my work days fruitful. 

This book is in a league of it's own. Most books spend the bulk of their pages making their argument, then offer some three point, impossible for most people to follow and maintain, action plan for how to do what the book has been championing. I know this because I keep notes for these books in a special notebook, and some of the entries are shallow compared to the amount of pages in the book. My notes for this book are pretty long. A testament to the depth this book achieves on it's topic.

Deep work is a book about Deep Work. Nuff said. The author does a good job making his case for the need to focus. I am constantly looking for ways to improve my own work, and I think this book is a good one to have on the shelf in your studio. Artist's need structure too.
